Southern University's renowned Human Jukebox marching band made a spectacular appearance at the 25th annual Super Bowl Soulful Celebration, hosted by CBS. The event, known for combining gospel and mainstream artists with top athletes, was held at the Pearl Theater in the Palms Casino Resort. The celebration featured performances by notable artists such as Earth, Wind & Fire, T-Pain, Robin Thicke, and Mary Mary, with the event being hosted by Cedric the Entertainer and Tichina Arnold.
The Human Jukebox's percussion section had the honor of performing with Kirk Franklin during the special's opening number, "Bless Me Indeed." In true Southern fashion, the band members marched and danced through the theater's aisles, playing their instruments flawlessly. The performance was met with a standing ovation from the audience, highlighting the band's exceptional musicianship and showmanship.
This appearance is just one of many on the global stage for the Human Jukebox, which has previously performed at various Super Bowls, the most recent presidential inauguration, the Rose Bowl parade, and numerous TV, film, and music video appearances. The band's participation in such prestigious events underscores its reputation as a top-tier marching band and its commitment to representing Southern University's legacy and brand on a global scale.
Director of Bands, Kendric Taylor, emphasized the importance of these opportunities for the band and the university, stating, "We always want to represent our brand…and the legacy of Southern University. We want the world to know who we are." The band was also presented with the opportunity to perform during Usher's highly anticipated halftime show at the Super Bowl, but due to prior commitments to the Bacchus Mardi Gras parade, they had to decline.
